This week, a guest lecturer on “Erasmus+” programme of the Europen Union, Dr.Eng. Slavka Mechkarova from UACEG (Sofia, Bulgaria) presented lectures on topic “Blue-green infrastructure (BGI)”. Blue-green infrastructure is an effective measure to mitigate the effects of climate change and the importance of BGI is increasing, especially in urban environments, as more than 70% of the EU‘s population currently live in an urban environment. Two of the topics were discussing the potential of green and blue infrastructure to reduce urban heat load in the city and opportunity to renew the natural structure of water balance in cities through the increase in rainwater retention and enlargement of permeable areas. For the students in architecture, a practical guidance for designing green roofs was presented, including information about the types of the green roofs, the advantages, the general considerations in designing and some practical recommendations.
