On February 8, 2024, students had the opportunity to present their works following a study trip to the Venice Biennale. This trip was an exceptional opportunity for students to firsthand experience the pavilions of the exhibition on the theme “Laboratory of the Future,” which brought together innovative approaches and creative ideas aimed at the future of architecture and art.
Each student carefully selected and thoroughly analyzed one pavilion, focusing on specific aspects that inspired them. These individual research efforts allowed students to deepen their understanding of different approaches in architecture and art, and how traditional techniques and materials can be used in innovative ways to address contemporary sustainability issues.
Throughout the semester, students were tasked with developing a concept for a Bosnian-Herzegovinian pavilion for the Biennale, which could be temporarily situated between two museums. This task was particularly challenging as it required students to think about ways in which their pavilion could contribute to the formation of a cultural district, and how they could use traditional techniques and materials responsibly, in line with the theme “Laboratory of the Future.”
The “Laboratory of the Future” at the Venice Biennale presented a return to traditional techniques and materials, as well as the responsible use of resources as an answer to sustainability questions. This theme was central to all the exhibition pavilions and served as inspiration for the students in creating their concepts for the Bosnian-Herzegovinian pavilion. Through their work, the students demonstrated a deep understanding of the importance of sustainable development and an innovative approach to using traditional resources in contemporary architecture and art.
